Common Face Swap Problems and Fixes
fixing the common face swap failures: blurry results, warped features, wrong face detected, skin tone mismatch, and watermark questions.
The short answer
Every common face swap problem maps to a known cause: warping = angle mismatch, blur = low input resolution, wrong face = detection ambiguity (confirm the face manually), tone mismatch = lighting conflict, and watermark questions = tier settings. Fix the input, not the re-roll — re-running identical inputs gives identical physics.
The big four fixes
Warped or distorted result: head-pose mismatch between source and target — use a source within roughly 20 degrees of the target's angle. Blurry or soft output: insufficient face resolution in the inputs — crop tighter, choose photos where the face occupies more frame. Wrong face swapped (group photos): detection picked a different face than intended — the tool's confirmation step exists for this; tap the correct face box. Skin tone or lighting mismatch: the source and target disagree on light direction or color temperature — pick a source lit from the same side and in similar warm/cool conditions. Full input rules: the input guide.
Detection and edge cases
No face detected: extreme angles (near-profile), heavy occlusion (hair, mask, hand), or faces too small in frame — swap targets need a reasonably visible, reasonably sized face. Two faces merged or confused: faces overlapping or very close together confuse detection — crop the target so only the intended region shows, or pick a cleaner frame. Glasses, bangs, hats: occlusions degrade both detection and blending; sources without them work best; on targets they are usually fine since the swap region adapts around them.
Output and tier issues
Watermark size/placement: free-tier outputs carry a watermark (the free tier page has details); paid removal yields the clean file. "My download looks lower quality than the preview": preview and download come from the same render — if the download looks worse, check your viewer's scaling, and confirm you downloaded the full-resolution file. Upload rejects: check format (JPEG/PNG/WebP), file size, and that the photo is not corrupted. Still stuck? Contact with the two input photos and we will look.
FAQ
Why is my face swap blurry?
Low face resolution in the inputs. Resolution matters at the face, not the whole photo — crop tighter or pick photos where the face fills more of the frame.
Why did the wrong face get swapped in my group photo?
Face detection ambiguity — use the confirmation step to tap the intended face, or crop the target so only one clear face shows.
Why does my result have weird shadows on the face?
Lighting direction conflict: source and target lit from different sides. Pick a source lit the same way as the target scene.
